InstaMonth: March ’14 / Announcements

March 2014

Gosh, it’s been a while. Sorry guys, but birthday and freelance took over my life for a few weeks there. It was a wonderful whirlwind filled with The Book of Mormon, LOTS of champagne, a Hollywood saloon, some awesome/nerdy presents from my friends (check out what Jamie made me!), and my very first set visit. I can’t tell you anything about it or the powers that be will have me killed, but let’s just say it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.

Somehow it’s been forever since I’ve updated this ol’ thing, so I thought I’d get back in the swing of things with a few announcements…

#1: I’m moving! … four blocks away. After four years of living alone post-college, I’m moving in with my friend, Rhi. Hellooo, hardwood floors, A/C, and (more) movie nights! Goodbye, first “big girl” apartment. Thanks for all the memories.

#2: I’m also going to New York! If freelancing, work trips, and packing up my entire apartment weren’t stressful enough, I’m also taking a trip in the middle of all of it. Luckily, it’s all a good kind of stress. Follow me on Instagram if you want to see some of my NYC adventures.

#3: In the midst of all the birthday craziness, the Veronica Mars movie came out! On my actual birthday! I went to see it with friends on opening night, have rewatched my digital copy twice, and was able to do some fun coverage for Nerdist. Check it out:

#4: I’m covering pop culture, comedy and food for the recently relaunched Static Beach! Make sure you follow us on Twitter for all things beach.

#5: Lastly, a big resounding thank you to everyone who celebrated my birthday with me this year. 25 was a bit of a tough one, but ringing in 26 with such incredible, thoughtful people really lifted my spirits. I LOVE YOU ALL!

Cute of the Day: First Kiss

I wouldn’t normally click on something like this. With all the click-bait out there on UpWorthy, EliteDaily, etc. etc. etc., I tend to avoid links like this that inherently feel a little manipulated. I wouldn’t normally click on something like this, but I’m glad I did. It’s very cute. Maybe it’s because my anniversary is coming up, or maybe because I find spring sort of magical, or maybe it’s because this video is in black and white, or because it’s set to this beautiful song by Soko… or maybe it’s because I’m secretly A TOTAL SAP.

The video is called First Kiss, and it’s directed by Tatia Pllieva. Essentially it’s a bunch of really pretty strangers making out with each other, and the whole thing is pretty effective. Check it out:

So, it’s my birthday this week. I’m turning the very-important age of 26. I’ve always loved birthdays — mine, yours, whatever — but recently I’ve been feeling a little down on the whole thing. It’s been a bit of a tough year, and for a while I thought I might just pretend my birthday didn’t exist. Then I realized that not celebrating would probably just bum me out more, so I WILL be celebrating after all. At a bar. With cocktails. As it should be.

It feels like LA skipped spring and went to full-blown summer this weekend. Global warming, everybody! I know with spring coming I should be all about florals and pastels, but I can’t quite shake my obsession with black and white. I blame my ’90s movie heroes and all those years I spent as a pouty little “punk”.

This Modcloth Wishlist is a little extensive, probably because I haven’t been shopping in months and I am in SERIOUS WITHDRAWAL. Here’s hoping I get a little birthday cash and can buy myself one of these pretty things. Who needs the color spectrum, anyway? Let’s get monochromatic.

The Future of Art in Los Angeles, at Flower Pepper Gallery

The Future of Art in Los Angeles

Do you live in LA? Do you like art, adorable art critics, and cupcakes? Well then, you’re in luck! On Saturday, March 15th at 1pm, the Flower Pepper Gallery will be hosting a panel discussion focused on the future of art in Los Angeles.

See a full list of the panelists above. The discussion will last about an hour, and will be moderated by The World’s Most Adorable Art Critic, Daniel Rolnik! Also, cupcakes! I’m going to do my best to take a break from birthday festivities and stop by, so maybe I’ll see you there.

Flower Pepper Gallery is located at 121 E Union St. in Pasadena. Check out the gallery’s official site for more information, and make sure you RSVP for the event on Facebook.
