Like many of my friends, I am close to obsessed with the online fashion boutique, ModCloth. Some of my best procrastination hours are spent perusing their website, adding hundreds of wardrobe pieces to my very neglected Amazon Wishlist and dreaming of a day when I can order $50+ dresses at the drop of a hat. While I keep hoping that writing will eventually pay all of my bills AND afford me the luxury of being a budding fashionista (ha), I thought I’d share some outfit ideas for everyone’s least favorite Hallmark holiday, the one and only Valentine’s Day.
I’ve never been particularly into Valentine’s Day as a concept, but I will find any excuse to wear a cute new outfit, try a new restaurant, and show someone – friend or otherwise – that I think they’re pretty rad. This year I definitely want to take Alexei to SUGARFISH (aka sushi heaven) and drag him to see my main man Bruce Willis in A Good Day To Die Hard – swoon.
Though I likely will not be buying any of this for myself (nor is this in any way a hint for my lovely boyfriend), I do like thinking about what I would buy, if I only had the funds. ModCloth offers a ton of adorable retro styles whether you’re into full-on pinup or a little bit of kitschy vintage. I personally stick to ultra feminine dresses with an edge.
Maybe it’s because I was a pseudo punk/goth/blue-haire teen, or maybe I just like to think I’m tougher than I am, but pairing some thigh-skimming floral number with a leather jacket just makes me feel like myself. “Valentine’s Day” attire easily fits into my mostly red/black/white/grey wardrobe… so these would be an investment, right? Right?
